super W

Here are a few shots I've been needing to post of our wonderful Wyatt!
Don't you just love his "jazz hands" He is so proud of himself when he stands.
I know he's super-fussy in this picture but I thought you might be as impressed as I am at the amount of drool he's got flowing. It's totally touching the ground people, that has to be blog worthy RIGHT?
He is also pulling up onto everything.
Here is a good shot of his hair, it is coming in so thick and sometimes it looks blonde but in this picture it's looking a little darker.
Just a couple of cute shots from his good old sink baths. He LOVES splashing around in the sink.
He's been crawling for a while now but we just crack up at the way he does it. He doesn't do hand, hand, knee, knee like a normal crawl. Click on the video below to see his own little crawling style.

come on pappy, baby needs a new pair of...

So now you know I wasn't lying when I told you how long little W's feet are. He woke up the other morning with the cutest little piggy peeking out to say hello. I always put him in footed pj's for bed but his feet are so long that his toes are usually all squished up at the end. I guess this is his way of telling me he may need some new pj's. What do you think?

So here's your daily dose of Kinder-related news. I promise I'm not trying to see if I can post something about Kindergarten everyday but I know your life wouldn't be complete without seeing Rhett before his big day.

the wheels on the bus

Look what big boy did today!R wanted to ride the bus so badly and after sitting in car line for more than an hour yesterday only to have the school bus beat me home I totally agreed. He looked like such a big boy getting off the bus. All the kids on our street ride. I felt so much better knowing that his fourth grade friend B would be on the bus to take care of him and make sure he got off at the right stop. There is no way to deny it any longer that our little boy is growing up rather quickly.

packing it all in before kinder

We took full advantage of every second this weekend to enjoy some extra special time with our little man. Saturday morning daddy and R went golfing and discovered that R had completely outgrown his clubs. So off we went to buy new clubs. R was so happy to get his clubs but he was most excited about getting a Nike golf glove just like daddy's. He LOVES it SO much that he actually wore it to bed and slept with it on all night. We wondered at first if he really liked the glove or if he was channeling Michael Jackson. Whatever the reason it was too cute! Not only did the little turkey get new clubs he got to camp out in the living room with daddy. The weather didn't agree with their backyard camping plans so being the super-cool mom that I am I let them set up in the living room. I think deep down Jason and I were both feeling the need to make sure we'd done everything with R that we needed to do before he made the big leap to Kinder so we tried to do it all in one weekend. (because that's the kind of last minute super parents that we are HA!) I spent most of the day Friday with R in my lap reading him every book he wanted. I asked him if he will always sit in my lap and he said, "Just until I'm a daddy because I'll be too heavy then." You know I plan on reminding him of this when he's too cool to even be seen with me someday.
On Sunday we had a great service at church and of course I cried all through the prayer for the school kids and teachers. It was also promotion Sunday so R got to go to the Kinder-First grade Sunday school class, which he LOVED! As soon as we picked him up he asked if he could go back there again. After church we went to see our Astros play. I don't have any pictures because we were sitting in the suite with daddy's co-workers and I didn't want to be snapping pictures like a tourist who's never been any where cool before. HA! We really had a great weekend packing it all in before sending our sweet boy off to Kinder.
Here are a few more Rhett funnies I've been needing to post:
During kid's church at Campmeeting the teacher passed out bookmarks with the 23rd Psalm on it and when Rhett got his he looked at it and said, "Oh great I can't even read!"
One of Rhett's daily chores is to vacuum up around the high chair after Wyatt's cheerio binges and after getting the job done he said, "Momma I can't wait until Wyatt is human so he won't be so messy."
We were playing pretty hard the other day and Rhett yelled to me, "Momma come quick you can feel my heart beeping."
Every morning Rhett comes down stairs and uses the guest bathroom. He was in there doing his business the other morning and just when he thought he was done another stream started flowing and in his sleepy haze he said, "Whoa! I did not see that coming!"
As you can see he is still cracking us up all the time. I just hope that we were able to fully prepare him for school through our one weekend of Super-Parenting! HA!

did this really just happen?

Look at our big boy all ready for his first day of Kindergarten. As I sit here and look at this picture my heart is just melting a thousand times over. I'm filled with so many emotions. Mostly I'm so excited for our little man to get to experience all the wonderful joys of growing up and going to school. But part of my heart just aches knowing that along the way on his school journey he will encounter difficult times. I just pray so much that the eagerness, excitement and love for life that you can see in his eyes will remain with him all through his school career. (Yes that is an apple in his hand...we always took apples to our teachers and I figured it couldn't hurt. Although Jason thought I may have gone a little over board when we also bought her a monogrammed coffee tumbler and a Starbucks gift card. DISCLAIMER: I have no shame, and I'm not above a little kissing up, don't you judge me!)

Checking out his school supplies for the first time. He was SO excited about his BIG eraser. (we bought his supplies through the school fundraiser so this was his first time seeing them)
As we were leaving, Mrs. D told the kids that they could color all over the paper on the tables and Rhett thought that sounded like the coolest thing ever. He shouted out to daddy, "Dad we get to color on the tables!" Then we walked away, leaving our little boy in the care of a stranger happily coloring on the tables. Oh Lord I just ask that you preserve little Rhett's sweet spirit and give him and Mrs. D a wonderful connection that will spark a life-long love of learning in him. Please be with each of his classmates and reveal to Rhett great friends who also love Jesus. Amen!

not the "K" word

If you've been wondering why I haven't mentioned anything about what is going to happen Monday morning, it's because somewhere in my head I believed that if I just ignored it it would go away. My whole ignore method was working fine until I had to face the music today and take my sweet little baby boy to meet his KINDERGARTEN teacher. There I said it the dreaded "K" word. Oh man how in the world did this happen? I'm way too young, cool and hip to have a school-aged child...RIGHT?!? After meeting R's wonderful teacher today I am feeling so much better about facing Monday morning. R is super-dooper EXCITED! He was happy to find his name throughout the classroom.
When we met R's teacher Mrs. D she told us how much she liked his name and said, "I've never had a Rhett before." To which the voice in my head replied, "Nope you sure haven't had a RHETT!" They absolutely broke the mould after Rhett was made.

they call me mamacita senorita bonita

All this chile cooking has really gotten me thinking about new possible careers. I may be able to get a job at a nice Mexican restaurant where people will call me Mamacita Senorita Bonita. Or they may actually give me a name that makes sense but I thought it wouldn't hurt to try slip in a pretty at the end. (My high school Spanish teacher would be so proud of my vast knowledge of the Spanish language wouldn't she?)I guess I thought I was already working for a restaurant by the amount of chile rellenos I made, or maybe the intense chile fumes I've been breathing are finally getting to me. A side effect of the fumes could also be my sudden need to grace you with my limited Spanish speaking skills.
I whipped seven egg whites until they were nice and stiff and then folded the yolks in. I decided to go with an egg batter to keep this whole meal low carb. You then will just dip each cheese-filled chile into the batter and put it in the hot oil.
The finished product on my bonita paper plate!
I thought the meal was Muy Bueno, but it got mixed reviews from the boys. Jason said, it was "really great and actually restaurant quality," which totally backs up my possible new career path. While Rhett on the other hand had this to say to daddy, "Daddy I've got something really bad to tell you, We're having old burned up chiles for dinner." So I guess I'll just be happy with a 50% approval rating for tonight's meal. HA!
Love, Mamacita Senorita Bonita!

seven months and sitting pretty handsome!

Oh little Wyatt is it really true? Are you really already seven months old? This month you have been so busy checking off the milestones that we can hardly keep up with you. Here is what all our baby blue eyes has been up to this month.
  • Started getting up on all fours at around six and half months and has now turned it into a crawl/booty scooch/army crawl
  • He has his two bottom teeth. They actually came through while we were at Campmeeting.
  • LOVES to eat and has NO patience in between bites and he's not afraid to tell momma about it if she's going too slow
  • Eating more and more table foods. So far he likes: mashed potatoes, green beans, macaroni noodles, tomatoes, french fries (horrible I know), blueberry muffin, oranges, bananas and avocados
  • Still nursing about every three hours during the day
  • He still loves to chat with us after he nurses in our bed early in the morning
  • He goes to bed around 7:30 and is waking up between 5:30-6:30am, which is way better than that 4am non-sense!
  • In the morning while daddy is getting ready for work, Wyatt watches him and just lights up every time he sees him
  • He is still a thumb sucker. He seems to prefer his left thumb and he looks like a little Aggie walking around all the time with his left thumb in the air.
  • He is still only saying dada and momma but he squeals, babbles and blows bubbles constantly
  • It is getting more and more difficult to change his diapers because he wiggles all over the place.
  • Every time he comes to me he still lays his head on my chest and sucks his thumb and it just warms me over
  • He has started to try to pull up on the ottoman and couch.
  • Takes two naps a day at 9:00 in the morning and 1:30 in the afternoon
  • When you hold him up in the air he will grab your face and touch every detail of it
  • He's also started swinging his head from side to side as if he's saying NO when we talk to him. (I hope this isn't foreshadowing defiance in the future)
  • His hands and feet are really long and I think he weighs more than 17 pounds by now
  • Wears size three diapers and size 6-9 month clothing
He is still bringing us so much JOY and we are just so blessed that God has allowed us to guide him on his journey through life!

i'll have green chile with a side of green chile

Tonight I stuffed chicken for the first time in my cooking career. Some of you may stuff chickens all the time and may not think this is a big deal but I feel I need a little praise for my mad chicken stuffing skills. You'll never guess what I stuffed them with, okay you got me it was tomato. HA! Of course it was green chiles, you're so smart!
I split open the chicken breasts and rubbed them with a southwest marinade. Then I layered cheese, chile, tomato and more cheese.
Here comes the best part, I got to wrap these little beauties up with BACON! I made R's with only cheese and bacon and he was so excited when he saw what awaited him for dinner.
Bake for 45 minutes at 350 and there you have it a yummy mix of flavors just waiting to meet your taste buds. I topped mine with yummy avocado slices.
Not wanting to be "out-topped" by his mommy, R topped his with an orange slice. R really LOVED this meal. After taking his first bite he said, "Well Blow me away, this is good. Why have I not ever tried this before."
And W polished off the leftover avocado

This won't be the end of my chicken stuffing days. I'm already brainstorming all of the combinations I can make with my new skills. As for tomorrows green chile creation, I think I'm going to try to make chile rellenos minus the breading since we aren't a big carb family. Until then, Happy Chicken Stuffing!

sunny with a chance of green chiles

In an attempt to use up all of our Hatch chiles, every meal I make this week will be based on this one hot little ingredient. Each year we buy a couple of cases of roasted Hatch, New Mexico green chiles and put them away for the winter. Or maybe we use them all year but winter makes me sound more "Little House on the Prairieish" don't you think? We LOVE these little green jewels but somehow we have way more left over than usual and we need to use them up in time to refill the freezer next weekend. So I will be making a different recipe every night this week with them. Tonight I made a variation of Queso/Taco/Green chili soup and it actually turned out pretty delish. Stay tuned to see what other green chili creations I can come up with.

campmeeting aftermath, kourtney, watermelons and a cutie pie

Okay so I think after approximately 876 loads of laundry, 45 soaks in the bath tub and one dead deer later we are finally somewhat recovered from Campmeeting. Cousin Kourtney came home with us for the week and this is literally the only picture I have from her stay. I guess after taking more than a thousand pictures the week before I was too tired to pull out the camera. She was such a BIG help and we loved having her. See I told you there was a dead deer. As we were driving down I-10 on our way home from West Texas we assisted this poor doe in her suicide. Before going to deer heaven she definitely left her mark on this world, and when I say world I mean Jason's truck. While Jason's truck is being repaired he got stuck with a PT Cruiser as his rental car that smells like sweaty cab driver feet. (no offense cab drivers but surely you can admit your feet probably stink)
As we wrap up another summer we are doing our part to enjoy every last bit of goodness before we kiss it goodbye. The best way to do that is to eat as much watermelon as possible. R has really been perfecting his tunneling skills which will come in handy if he ever needs to escape from the big house. HA!
Oh and if the dead deer didn't gross you out enough take a look at what "Campmeeting Aftermath" really means. Yes this is my tub after Rhett and Kourtney soaked in it leaving all of their debris behind. I know you are wondering if we actually take showers while we are out West and the answer is yes, but a bar of soap is no match for a five year old boy running wild through the mountains.Since I grossed you out twice in one post I will leave you with this as my peace offering.

rhett at the talent show

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

I forgot to post R's video from his debut at the talent show. We were a little shocked to see him get a little shy about it. (although it's really for the best that he didn't bust out his dancing moves at church camp..HA!)

campmeeting catchup post

We just got back from another amazing Bloys Campmeeting. We traveled with our cousins and stopped at Balmorhea State Park for a swim in the spring fed pool. Growing up in West Texas my family used to swim there frequently and I think it's pretty special that R and W will get to have that same experience. The water was super-dooper cold as you can tell by the look on Kacey's face after just getting her toes wet. Jason and all the kids had a great time swimming with the fishies and R was so brave to jump off the diving board. I LOVE the shot of him jumping off the board. Our music minister just used this as an example last Sunday about how trusting kids are to jump into their father's arms into the deep water and how that is the same trust we have to have to go through life knowing that our heavenly Father will catch us as well. We always spend Sunday night at the Hotel Limpia in Fort Davis before heading out to our cabins Monday afternoon. We usually take the kids out to the Prude Ranch Tuesday morning to let the kids ride horses. Since this would be R's first year to get to ride I thought I'd better go along as well. I had so much fun riding with the kids and the scenery was absolutely beautiful! R did a great job with his horse, Tortuga, (which he called Tortilla) and we only had one little incident when his horse decided to run up a hill. R was practically hanging off the side but he never let go of the saddle horn or his reigns. He was hanging on for dear life and once his horse stopped he was laughing his head off along with the rest of us.
Rhett and Jackson got to serve biscuits together. It was pretty sweet to see their daddies teaching them how it's done because they were probably standing on the same milk crates serving biscuits just a few years ago.
I LOVE when my boys match!
This was R's first journey through the "bat cave". Going through the bat cave is a right of passage that all the kids have to experience. Everything was great until cousin Wade dropped him to the bottom of the cave and R let him have it. From what I hear he started yelling at Wade telling him, "You're not supposed to drop me" and "Look my hand hurts right here, How am I supposed to climb with a hurt hand". I can promise you Wade will never drop Rhett again...HA!
More mountain climbing!
Every year we take a family picture and here are a few shots from this years photo shoot.
Aunt Mary Ann's porch party is always full of great singing, family fun and yummy watermelon. Jason and his mom have been entertaining on her porch for a lot of years.
This was R's last year to get to go to Mable Bloys kids church each morning. The kids always preform the songs they learn all week at the Saturday morning church service. They all did such a great job, especially Rhett's friend Jackson who sang his heart out...too cute! This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
Hide it in my nostrils under a bushel
NO, I'm gonna let it shine! More biscuit serving and fun with Jackson and Grey
This was my eleventh year to attend Campmeeting and each year seems to top the last. Getting to experience it with Rhett and Wyatt makes it all so sweet. What a wonderful family tradition to pass on to them and for them to pass on to many generations to come. Rhett is already counting down the days until next year. Only 356 days
