We had another fun year of trick or treating with our neighbors. Since we had such great weather this year we all met outside and grilled hot dogs on the cul-de-sac. It was really nice not to have such a hot Halloween night like it has been in the past. In spite of the cooler weather Rhett still worked up a sweat running from house to house. After several blocks he finally asked us, "When is this going to be over?" (Wyatt was a pumpkin for Halloween if you couldn't tell, although I think it just looked like I swallowed one! HAHA)

bear party
Rhett's class had a bear party today. We stuffed a bear, made bear hats and ate every food imaginable that was shaped like a bear.

mr. thing
Meet Mr. Thing. Mr. Thing is Rhett's secret identity. He got these glasses as part of a party favor this weekend but when he's wearing them he transforms into Mr. Thing. Mr. Thing has a little attitude and he doesn't give any love to mommas. It's so cute to watch his little imagination work!

zoo boo
We had such beautiful weather this weekend and so we spent a lot of time outside enjoying it. We headed to the zoo for another year of zoo boo. Rhett always enjoys getting to trick or treat at the zoo and paint his very own pumpkin.

funny of the day
So I guess there is a bright side to aging...You can still impress a four year old with your ability to look like a famous person! I'm actually curious which one of these guys Rhett saw today.

pumpkin time
Do you think we got carried away on our pumpkin buying this year? We found so many great pumpkins at the pumpkin patch that we had to bring them all home. We have only carved two so far and are going to try to save the rest for closer to Halloween.

race for the cure or breakfast
We woke up bright and early to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Our plan was to do the family walk of only a mile. Millions of people form teams to raise money for breast cancer research and run or walk to show their support. We were on Jason's work team and like I said we planned on just walking a mile. When we got there we were overwhelmed with the number of people who were at the event. We had no idea just how many people would be filling the streets of downtown to run/walk for the cure. By the time we figured out where the race was going to begin we realized that we had gotten in the 5K line instead of the family walk line. We made the quick decision to snake our way out of the millions of people so that we didn't end up in the massive herd walking further than Rhett or this six and a half month prego gal wanted to walk. What was funny is that once we got out of the race crowd we ended up at the finish line of the family walk so we just pretended that we completed the walk. We decided that we did get our walk in because the walk from Jason's office where we met our team to the starting line was pretty far. Our true race began once we got out of the crowds and raced to our favorite breakfast joint.
(I hope the shirt above doesn't offend anyone. All of the teams have shirts made and that particular team was a bunch of guys and it just made us laugh. We saw lots of clever shirts that day.)

back to normal...you tell me!
All of our out of town friends and family keep asking if things are back to normal yet since Ike visited our area. So I thought I'd take a few current pictures of my street and Target and let you decide for yourself. All of the above houses are on my street. When I leave my subdivision I pass them everyday and as you can see they had some major roof damage. They are all currently repairing their roofs but the city hasn't been able to keep up with the debris removal. They have come and picked up all of the tree debris so there is some improvement but every time I drive down my street I'm reminded of how "un-normal" things are for so many down here. The last picture if of my Target store, they are slowly getting things restocked. It really feels strange down here when you see empty shelves at the grocery store, or when you drive down the road and see FEMA Disaster Recovery sites set up everywhere. Please don't forget to pray for all of the people down here who have been so affected by the storm. We had the roofers come and repair the patches on our roof that needed attention and our total damage came out to $250...What a blessing!
ride makerz
These are also some pictures that have been stored on my phone. We found this cool new store in the mall called RideMakerz. It's basically Build-a-Bear for boys. You go in and pick every detail of your car and then you get to put it all together. You can only imagine how much fun the boys had building a car together.
blum autograph
I came across these pictures on my phone from an August shopping trip we took to Macy's. While we were there one of our favorite Astros was having an autograph session so we were able to get in line and score an autograph. The player is Geoff Blum and Rhett was so excited to meet him. He was ready to shake his hand and tell him "Nice to meet you Mr. Blum", but when we got up there Geoff said give me five! He also told Rhett that he liked his hair. What was even more special was at the game that night Geoff came in to pinch hit and got the game winning RBI. We like to think it was because he was so inspired by his brief meeting with Rhett.

new fish and an escape artist
We decided to replace the fish we lost during Ike. Rhett picked out two new blue fish and one fire goby. So far they are all getting along with each other as long as they stay out of Nemo's territory. It is funny to watch Nemo being so protective of his favorite coral. Anytime they come close he just herds them back to their corner. Aside from establishing their pecking orders, all the fish are doing just fine in the Newman reef. Then there is Mister Turtle who is a completely different story. He has become quite the escape artist. We even put foil all around the top of his house to try to keep him from scaling the walls, but Jason said that all the foil did was protect him from an alien abduction. This turtle climbs out several times a day and we find him in the strangest places all over our house. I have finally had enough of the crawling on my hands and knees search parties, so Rhett and I are headed to the pet store to find an escape-proof home for the incredible Mister Turtle.
